Everyone uses the trails at Hayes Arboretum in their own way. Whether it is with a group or with a pet, safety must be exercised by those hiking and biking on the trails.
Please follow the rules and regulations below. Improper conduct may lead to expulsion.
For Riders using the trail:
Ride at your own risk.
Bicycle helmets required. A properly fitting CPSC-rated helmet is highly recommended for everyone. A snug fitting, full-face helmet is encouraged when jumping.
Bicycles should be in good working order. Riding a bike that is in poor condition or improperly assembled is dangerous. Visit your local bike shop for a safety check and get your bike(s) tuned up by a professional mechanic regularly.
Lower your saddle for improved bike handling on jumps and pump tracks.
Look before you leap. Natural and man-made terrain can change due to weather, use, and maintenance. Do not ride or jump blindly!
Ride safely within your ability. Some trails require advanced skills. The skill level required for the various park features are identified on the map.
Ride progressively. Start small and work your way up as your skills develop.
Protective gear is highly recommended. In addition to a helmet, wearing gloves, shin, knee, elbow pads, body armor and, in some cases, a neck brace is a good idea - especially when jumping.
Slippery when wet. Tracks and features are slippery when wet. Use extreme caution and abide by the posted trail status.
Children require adult supervision.
Respect others using the trails.
Stay in control at all times. Be aware of your surroundings and other park visitors. Adjust your speed when the park is busy.
Be courteous and share the track with other riders.
Take turns and keep a safe distance between you and the rider in front of you. Clear landing areas quickly.
Riders yield to pedestrians and uphill traffic.
Ride jump lines in one direction, one line at a time.
If you stop for a break or due to mechanical issues, move off to the side of the trail.
Respect the trails.
Do not use the dirt trails or features when they are wet or muddy. If mud is sticking to your tires/shoes, or you are creating ruts/footprints, it is too wet to use. Failure to follow this rule causes unnecessary damage to the bike park and is costly to fix – don’t be that person.
Obey trail and feature closures. Closure information can be found on the Hayes Arb Mountain Bike Trails Facebook page.
Stay on designated bike trails.
Do not modify trails or features.
Respect all the rules and regulations of Hayes Arboretum:
For Pedestrians using the trail:

Do not block or obstruct the bike trails/features. Do not stand or sit in blind areas.
Parents/Guardians, please watch your young children carefully and stay with them at all times.
