The Vision

  • Enhance place identity and service level through strategic investment.

  • Promote an enhanced connection to nature.

  • Establish the arboretum as a host site for education training, workshops, and other special events.

  • Enhance accessibility.

Creating a new experience while preserving the history and nature.

The Main Entrance will include a redesigned parking layout and new entrance to increase accessibility, added space to the Nature Center to better visitor experience, and a new learning lab educational building for programs and rentals.

Focusing on family and visitor experience.

The Nature Playscape will include new features that will satisfy the physical needs of children of all ages and provide space for visitors to enjoy the green space together.

Adding comfort and safety to the East Entrance.

Improvements to the East Side Entrance will open accessibility and make the overall visitor experience more welcoming, including the installation of restrooms, seating areas, and shaded structures.

Making memories and connecting to nature.

A Learning Lab Building with three classrooms will allow more students, program participants, and organizations to engage with nature in new ways - from field trips to retreats.

Introducing new points of exploration.

The addition of a new trailhead on the northeast portion of the property opens access to difficult to reach historic areas and trails. Paired with a new entrance off of Hayes Arboretum Road, these new features will increase the connection between the two areas.
