Hayes Arboretum awarded ArbNet Level II Certification

ArbNet was launched by the Morton Arboretum in April 2011 to create an interactive community of arboreta and professionals. Additionally, an accreditation system was set to provide specific professional practices of arboreta. Hayes Arboretum officially joined the community in 2021 with a Level I Accreditation through ArbNet.

Since then, staff have worked hard to build their collection of native trees on property up to 100 unique specimens. At one point in time, the Arboretum housed 141 native trees and shrubs, but old age and disease have claimed many of these specimens in the last few decades. With the generosity of donors and countless hours from volunteer and staff, Hayes Arboretum has 109 labeled tree specimens on property that serve the public as educational resources. Each specimen shows the qualities and best traits of their species and include a tag to help visitors identify the tree.

With this latest achievement, Hayes Arboretum was reclassified as a Level II Arboretum through ArbNet. We welcome the public to visit our native trees and shrubs on property. If you would like to learn more about the specimen species, please visit the Tree ID Trail page on our website.
