** If you register more than one child from the same household, you can use the Multi-Child Discount that takes off 10% each class. This discount cannot be applied to the Survivor Instincts and Wood Carving courses. **

WAITING LIST: If there is a SOLD OUT course, you can call the Nature Center at (765) 962-3745 and be added to a wait list. There is no guarantee that an opening will appear in that course. 

Parents and guardians: Please be sure your child is dressed appropriately in old shoes and clothes that can get dirty and soggy! Also, please provide bug spray and sunscreen for your child or have it already applied upon arrival. An old towel and change of clothes & shoes are recommended to send with your child.


If students are enrolled in both a morning and afternoon class, they can stay for lunch (12-1pm) for $2 per student per day. They must bring a packed lunch. Students in Survivor Instincts do not have to pay the $2 fee but must provide their own lunch.

Students register for the grade level they are entering in the Fall 2020 school year. Please complete a separate registration form for each student.

Summer class registration can be completed via telephone at (765) 962-3745, mail-in, or hand delivered (PDF of Registration Form located below).

Available hours for registration drop off are Tues-Sat, 9am-5pm. Registration fees must accompany registration.

Garden Club

June 1-5, 9am-12pm

Have you ever wanted to create a fairy garden? Put your green thumb to the test as we dig into the dirt to plant and create mini-themed gardens while learning about local flora.

Open Discovery Club

Need a good excuse to go outside? Join us as we hike the trails and explore the waterways of Hayes Arboretum. Each day is a new trail and a new adventure waiting to happen!

PreK - 1st Grades

Tiny Explorers

June 8-12, 9am-12pm

Take an adventure into the forest and see what is waiting inside! Use the senses as we search for furry and feathered forest friends, explore the surroundings, and leave no leaf unturned.

Insect Investigators

June 8-12, 1-4pm

Do you know what makes an insect different from other animals? Learn more about the insects and animals that crawl, fly, and buzz around Hayes Arboretum.

Little Tadpoles

July 6-10, 9am-12pm

Frogs, salamanders, crawdads—oh my! Learn about these amazing aquatic critters and more as we adventure to ponds and streams throughout the Arboretum in search of our forest friends.

Feather Festival

July 6-10, 1-4pm

Birds of a feather flock together! Learn more about our feathered forest friends as we sing bird songs, create bird feeders, and search for them in the wild.

2nd - 3rd Grades

I Spy

July 20-24, 9am-12pm

Do you have an eagle eye? Test out your scavenger skills as we search the forest and waters for all of the animals, plants, and other nature odds and ends on the list.

Swamps & Streams

July 20-24, 1-4pm

What is the difference between a swamp and a stream? Learn about wetland habitats while adventuring through the waters at Hayes Arboretum.

2nd - 5th Grades

Exploration Club

June 15-19, 9am-12pm

Do you like to explore? Discover what is waiting in the forest as we traverse the trails with maps and magnifying glasses in hand, searching for the hidden wonders inside.

Animal Trekkers

June 15-19, 1-4pm

Think you know all there is to Indiana wildlife? Explore the forest, streams, and things in-between in search of our fuzzy, feathered, and fabulous forest friends.

4th - 5th Grades

Eco Challenge

Looking for a new adventure? Why not try your luck in the woods? Accept the challenge and learn how to survive the wilderness at Hayes Arboretum.

Creek Week

June 22-26, 1-4pm

Why are aquatic ecosystems so important? Learn this answer and more as we explore the waters of Hayes Arboretum in search of reptiles, amphibians, and all the animals that call it home.

Woodland Olympics

July 27-31, 9am-12pm

Do you have what it takes to win gold? Warm up with a hike through the forest before competing in individual and team games and exercises that test out your brains and brawn.  

Earth Art

July 27-31, 1-4pm

Take inspiration from Nature in this outdoor art course. Create beautiful, natural and recycled crafts while gaining a deeper appreciation for the world around us.

6th - 8th Grades

Survivor Instincts

July 13-17, 9am-4pm

Do you have what it takes to survive in the wild? Test your knowledge as we compete to build shelters, navigate the forest, and practice our survival skills. Students are asked to bring lunch. No extra fees.

3rd - Adults

Intro Carve

Session 1: July 7-8, 10am-12pm | Session 2: July 14-15, 10am-12pm

If you are a beginner, this is the class for you. Learn the basic techniques of wood carving by practicing on a bar of soap. Watch it transform into whatever you want!

Open Carve

Session 1: July 7-8, 1-3pm | Session 2: July 14-15, 1-3pm

A step up from Intro Carve, in this class students will advance to wood and choose to carve from a variety of available shapes. Models include an arrow head, bear claw, bird, squirrel, and more.

Walking Stick

July 21-22, 10am-12pm

Learn how to personalize a walking stick that you will treasure for years. A walking stick for carving is included in the class cost.
